Mick May - Founder and Chief Executive

Mick joined Groundwork Thames Valley as Executive Director in 2003, after a career in the financial services industry. He has held a number of senior positions, including Managing Director of NationsBank and GNI Fund Management.

In 2004 he conceived and established Blue Sky Development & Regeneration. Mick’s role at Blue Sky is to drive the strategic development of the company, develop sustainable income streams and to have overall management responsibility.

Andrea McCubbin - General Manager

With an MSc in Geographical Information Systems, Andrea has over 10 years experience in the public and private sectors. Before joining Groundwork in April 2006, she worked for CACI and for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Andrea's interest in the analysis of crime datasets led her to become General Manager of Blue Sky in January 2007.

A firm proponent of people being given a second chance, Andrea believes that offering ex-offenders “a proper job with a proper company” is a real solution to the problem of ex-offending. In the last year Blue Sky has seen its commercial revenue almost double: living proof that by employing ex-offenders you can deliver a quality commercial service on the ground.

Andrea has responsibility for the development of commercial revenues, relationships with contractors, local authorities and funders, and for the operational management of the teams.

Tony Dickenson, Financial Controller

Tony has had over 25 years experience in both the public and private sectors, with a predominately financial background. Before joining Blue Sky, he was Financial Controller for the CIP Group of companies who ran the leisure services of Hounslow Council (and who also contracted Blue Sky for grounds maintenance work.) Two companies in the group were charities, which gave him over four years' experience in understanding how charities work.

Tony is responsible for all financial aspects of Blue Sky with particular emphasis on managing cashflow and ensuring that all expected growth is responsibly managed.

Steve Finn - Contracts Manager

Blue Sky’s contract manager, Steve Finn, has been employed with the company from Day One. Previously he worked as the New Deal works supervisor for Groundwork Thames Valley and has a wealth of experience in the grounds maintenance sector.

Steve worked for the Royal Parks for ten years, gaining invaluable industry knowledge and experience.

Steve’s role is to ensure that contracts are delivered to the correct quality standards and to manage employee recruitment.

Fran Humphreys - South West Regional Manager, based in Gloucester

Before joining Blue Sky, Fran worked in the Probation Service where he gained extensive experience in Offender and Risk Management, running projects and helping people to improve their employment prospects.

As South West Area Manager, Fran manages Blue Sky?s operations in Gloucestershire, Avon and Somerset. He works to develop links with agencies dealing with social issues hindering rehabilitation, such as problems with employment, housing, drug and alcohol abuse, etc. These organisations include local Councils, Housing Associations, prisons and the Probation Service.

Frank Hough, Employment Liaison Manager

Before working for Blue Sky, Frank worked for A4E as Ex-Offender Community Liaison Officer (Job-Mates) and was responsible for the Hertfordshire caseload of ex-offenders. He also devised and delivered training in motivation and employment skills.

Previously Frank was a tutor in South Bank University where he taught literacy and numeracy to City & Guilds Level 3 and 4. He devised Family Learning programmes for parents and teachers to teach, using different learning styles, eg visual, kinaesthetic, etc.

At Blue Sky, Frank liaises with potential employers to identify job-opportunities for employees after their contract with Blue Sky ends. He mentors team-members and also devises and delivers vocational training programmes to prepare them to (re-)enter longterm employment.

England and Wales release 90,000 prisoners each year; 60% of prisoners re-offend within 2 years.            Re-offending costs England and Wales £12 billion each year.            Employment reduces re-offending by 33-50% but 75% of ex-offenders have no job on release.
